About the Artist

Janene Pratt is a classically trained artist. She began drawing as a child and after visiting the museums in Europe developed a love for chiaroscuro paintings and drawings.

She studied figural and gesture studies with Nelson Shanks and his teachers from the Studio Incamminati where she was taught the "Grisaille" method.

Pratt studied still life and portrait with David A. Leffel, considered a modern master of the "chiaroscuro" technique made popular by Rembrandt. She has also studied with Henry Yan, Gregg Kreutz, and Sherrie McGraw.

Janene Pratt's artwork has been awarded numerous awards at juried shows throughout the country. Her work was chosen for display in the "Texas Southern Living Idea Home". Pratt is a member of the Brazos Valley Art League (BVAL), the Lone Star Art Guild (LSAG) and the Portrait Society of America. Her artwork has hung in the Texas Gallery at Dartsmouth in College Station, Texas, The Frame Gallery,Cenare's and The Forsyth Museum at Texas A&M and in various private collections throughout the country.

She was named "Best and Brightest by The Scottsdale Art School 2011;was juried into the Forsyth Gallery and Museum 2011; also participated in the 175th Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of Texas "Big Picture Project" for the State of Texas. She recently enjoyed traveling to celebrate the opening of Nelson Shank's exhibit in St. Petersburg, Russia
